02 / Method

What each generation does

  1. FilterThe bundled list is filtered by the inclusive minimum and maximum character lengths.
  2. Drawcrypto.getRandomValues() supplies random 32-bit values. Rejection sampling removes modulo bias.
  3. Keep uniqueA partial Fisher-Yates shuffle selects without replacement, so one result cannot contain a duplicate.

03 / Word source

A fixed, inspectable list

This tool bundles all 1,296 entries from the EFF Short Wordlist 2.0, with only the four-dice coordinates removed. EFF designed this list so every entry has a unique three-character prefix and entries are at least three edits apart. The bundled entries range from 3 to 10 characters, are lowercase, and include the hyphenated entry yo-yo.

04 / Limits

Behavior and scope

  • Generation happens locally in the browser. This tool makes no network request and does not store settings or results.
  • The result is limited to 50 words. If the requested count exceeds the eligible pool, the tool reports the pool size instead of repeating entries.
  • Changing any setting clears the earlier result so stale words cannot be copied. Invalid settings remain visible for correction.
  • The EFF list is a passphrase-oriented source, not a general dictionary. It includes informal, brand-related, dated, and potentially sensitive terms, and this tool does not define or curate them.
  • Cryptographically strong sampling alone does not make a result a suitable password. This tool does not calculate password entropy or replace a password manager.
