International Morse, text only

Morse code translator

Encode supported text as dots and dashes, or decode clearly separated International Morse groups back to text.

Translation mode

The selected mode controls how separators and unsupported characters are validated.

0 / 2,000 code points

Letters are case-insensitive. ASCII spaces, tabs, and line breaks become one word boundary.

No result yet

One space separates letters. A spaced slash, / , separates words.

Ready to encode text.

02 / Format

How separators are read

TEXT

Encoding boundaries

One or more ASCII spaces, tabs, or line breaks become one word boundary. Leading and trailing whitespace is ignored. Other whitespace characters are unsupported.

MORSE

Decoding boundaries

One or more ASCII whitespace characters separate letter groups. A single slash separates words, with or without surrounding whitespace.

EXACT

No guessed groups

Morse without letter boundaries is ambiguous. Unknown groups, repeated slashes, and unsupported symbols produce an error instead of a guessed result.

03 / Character set

Supported International Morse subset

The translator supports the 26 unaccented Latin letters A to Z, digits 0 to 9, and the standard punctuation below. Letter case is not represented in Morse, so decoded letters are uppercase.

Character Morse Character Morse
..-.-.-,--..--
:---...?..--..
'.----.--....-
/-..-.(-.--.
)-.--.-".-..-.
=-...-+.-.-.
@.--.-.A to ZITU letter table

The character slash is encoded as -..-.. A literal slash in Morse input is reserved for a word boundary. Prosigns, accented letters, American Morse, emoji, and punctuation not listed here are outside this tool's subset.

04 / Limits

Behavior and limits

  • Source input is limited to 2,000 Unicode code points and 4,000 UTF-16 code units. Generated output is limited to 16,000 code units.
  • Input remains in place when validation fails. Editing the source or changing mode clears any earlier result so stale text cannot be copied or swapped.
  • Swap direction is available after a successful translation. It moves the valid result into the opposite mode and translates it immediately.
  • Morse code is an encoding, not encryption. It does not hide the meaning of a message from anyone who can decode it.
  • The supported table follows ITU-R Recommendation M.1677-1. This text translator does not play, record, or analyze audio.
