Greek Alphabet and Transliterator
Explore the 24 Greek letters and convert them with a reversible, case-aware key map. This maps characters; it does not translate Greek words.
Modern tonos and dialytika are retained through canonical Unicode normalization. Other characters are preserved unchanged.
The map keeps letter case and uses j only for lowercase final sigma ς.
Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Enter or Command+Enter converts the current input.
Choose a direction and enter text.

Final sigma: lowercase ς maps to j, while medial σ maps to s. Uppercase sigma Σ maps to S. This explicit distinction avoids guessing word boundaries and makes mapped sigma forms reversible.
Method and limits
Exact conversion rules
- Character mapping
- Each supported Greek letter maps to one Latin key, and each listed key maps back. Case is preserved. This is deliberately not phonetic Greeklish, ISO 843, dictionary translation, or pronunciation guidance.
- Modern accents
- Tonos uses Unicode combining acute U+0301. Dialytika uses combining diaeresis U+0308. Precomposed and decomposed forms are accepted, marks are ordered as diaeresis then acute, and Greek output is composed to NFC where Unicode defines a composed form.
- Unsupported text
- Whitespace, punctuation, digits, emoji, unlisted Latin letters, archaic symbols, and polytonic clusters with breathing, grave, circumflex, macron, breve, or iota subscript pass through unchanged. Nothing is silently removed.
- Bounded work
- Input is limited to 20,000 UTF-16 code units. Output is at most the same order of size, and stale output is cleared whenever input or direction changes.
